Parasocial & THE DIGITAL  AGE

I turned on the TV the other day and watched some news channel for the first time, in goddess knows when. It, however, had me pretty engulfed as they were talking about the dictionary and today’s top words or some shit like that. The word was Parasocial, which apparently means a connection with someone you do not know—like a celebrity, newscaster, content creator, etc. I was like, “Aaaand it’s happening.” I speak about this type of stuff on a reg, just on my own personal time.

It’s hard not to escape the reality left for all of us to simply deal with. A bunch of probably stiff, mannequin-looking mfcrks wanting to take over the entire nation. It’s wild. Now some of you are probably like—WTF does that have to do with parasocial and the digital age?

E V E R Y T H I N G.

Yesterday I was listening to a guy on Insta share a clip of Lizzo talking about how the music industry is dead. Psh! I could have told you that! I’ve been seeing madd commercials with celebrities in them, and I’m sitting here wondering like, WTF is going on. Until, yeah, it clicked. Exactly what Mz. Lizzo said.

Every single one of the celebs but basically Beyoncé is on literal Tik Tok is going live to try to promote their music. That in fact they all have dropped albums, but since the agenda for the masses have changed and there’s no control on this digital shit right now, they have no choice but to basically “turn to the streets.”
Now I of course have no idea how true this is, as I’m only another ear in the whistle down the lane loop, but it resonates pretty true to me. Honestly y’all, just stop questioning the wild shit. Believe that! It’s the shit that seems “Too good to be true” that we need to be more vigilant about. It’s not the trauma talking y’all, it’s just just the plain old truth! We know good and well by now this shit is game you gotta figure out how to play.

Shit is mayhem; people are waking up. You’ve got people who are now famous from things that have nothing to do with the music or art industry—i.e., content creators! And some people are so lost.

As a Millennial myself, I most certainly have my struggles finding how to navigate the things I hold near and dear to my heart, as they just do not come from this day and age. I just have always had a dreamy soul. I have learned to be able to go to a place of nirvana, and now I understand that I can turn this on and off at will.

Stay Dreamy—Not dysfunctional. 😊

Anyways, I was talking to my BF this morning as we were heading out. I was thinking, what is happening to humanity? Where do we go from here? Can you imagine the world 50 years from now? I mean, seriously! Some people talk about wanting to live forever, but not in this. It’s not obtainable, and spiritually I’m now at the point in my life where everyone has a season and a time. I can’t believe I’m saying that, but I get that now.

I also think, as human beings, it’s very natural to not be able to foresee the future or even sometimes the consequences of it. We have ideas, yes, but we really have no clue the damage left behind for not caring for such a delicate world. As I’ve said: Not sustainable. That’s where we are headed.

I don’t necessarily fear AI. I fear loss of connection, of humanity. Of what it’s like to be a physical being made up of atoms, and protons—not silicone and plastic. Shaking my head profusely as I write that, because the thought alone causes simultaneous reactions in my body. Sadness, anger, rage. Yeeaauup. Like I said, fucked.

To end on a happier note—do know this. When it rains, it pours, but rainbows appear at the end of the storm. ⛈️ The journey is long, and sometimes treacherous, but you’ll find yourself more because of it. People come and go, like the four seasons, but a heart filled with love will always keep beating.
